and the survey says… [Video below]
Wow! Surveymonkey ‘closed’ my survey because we maxed out how many responses allowed in a given month!
…pretty cool. I really did not expect to get so many responses so fast — but THANK YOU!
…thank you to everyone that completed the survey and responded to the blog post — not to mention all the kind pre-birthday wishes.
I really appreciate it becuase the better I understand what you need help with, the better I can help you.
That said, if you have not read the post and commented, please give me your feedback here on the blog.
OK, I’ve just started digging into the survey results but so far there are a few trends I’m seeing and I’d like to address one of them right away…
A large number of people are struggling with all the information coming at them from every angle which is leaving them feeling confused and overwhelmed.
I must say, it’s not surprising. There is a lot of information out there. In fact, there is so much information that most people are left feeling lost and overwhelmed, not knowing which way to turn.
Day in, and day out, you get bombarded with emails from the latest “Guru” preaching that the road to success will be found when you to buy their product!
Well I’m here to tell you, “BEWARE!”
Be very careful who you take advise from because taking advise from someone who has not actually achieved what you hope to achieve, is very dangerous. It can cost you a lot of time, money, and heartache. And unfortunately, there are a lot of charlatans out there who claim to be successful business experts …but frankly, are not!
They are shamelessly lying to you in hopes of turning a quick buck.
I don’t know about you but I’m sick of it. I’ll tell you right now that while I’ve had a great deal of success with my online businesses, I am by no means the only person you can choose to learn from.
But what I can tell you is this…
I’ve been working online for 9 years and counting. And during that time I have developed several successful, 6-figure business that all run virtually on auto-pilot.
And over the years I have continued to learn and be mentored by many of the best people out there. I don’t mean to toot my own horn but the fact is, I am the real deal.
So yes, I actually do know what I’m talking about. I really have “been there and done that”. I’ve had many successes and many, many failures all of which taught me new lessons in both business and life.
So let me ask you this VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION…
In business who are you hanging around with? Who is influencing and shaping the outcome of your business? Who are you taking advice from? Are they where you are, or are they where you want to be?
Maybe it’s time to ‘weed out’ some of the people (and email lists) you are on so that you can start focusing on the teachings of people that really can help you. People that really want to help you.
Trust me, when you clear the clutter, you’ll not only feel a weight has been lifted but you’ll also become WAY more productive!
Alright, this post is getting much longer than I intended but I thought it was important so I wanted to share it with you.
But before you go, take a quick look at this video excerpt for a workshop I did where I’m discussing the Power of Focus…
Enjoy!
Glen
PS. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think of this post and what YOU need help with.
On my birthday YOU can EXPECT an AWESOME GIFT!

Thanks Glen’
Been there done that.
Emails the robber of time.
Am working hard to cancel that problum.
Thanks for the great post and video.
James
Yeah No Doubt! Just opened my inbox when I found your video and I have 47 new emails since this morning when I spent about a hour cleaning it out. You’re Bang On!
Cheers,
Rob
It often takes me to lunchtime to get through the mail each morning – trying to figure out what latest offer is going to save me time and money – i’m exhausted and never seem to get anything done. Today, I am just looking at the mail I know I can trust and deleting the rest. It’s almost 10am and I have already achieved more this morning than I have done all week!

I know what you mean about distractions. I am disabled and this is even worse for me, since once I get too distracted by trying to do too many things at once, it takes me too long to get back on track so I can actually accomplish anything. Thank you for the tip Glen! We all need to be reminded of this from time to time. I will keep this in mind when I feel like I’m not getting anywhere with any of my marketing objectives that I am working on accomplishing. Thanks so much!
Thanks for your feedback everyone!
Regarding your email, try this…
1. Check your email once in the morning for a maximum of 30min. Respond to the urgent messages the TURN IT OFF!
2. For 1 hour, work on ONE productive task with 100% FOCUS
3. Take a break (you’ll find 1 hour at 100% focus is about all you can do at first — you need to build up the time)
4. For 1 hour, work on ONE productive task with 100% FOCUS
5. Turn on your email. Respond to urgent messages only. Then turn it off.
6. Go back to focus mode…
I GUARANTEE that at the end of just ONE DAY working in this manner you will get more PRODUCTIVE, income-producing work accomplished, than you would in a typical, non-focused WEEK.
Give it a try…you might just like the results
Glen
PS Happy Birthday Canada!
Good info, but how do you know who to listen to. I am also overwhelmed by e-mails from all the ‘experts’ but I have no idea who is really a guru expert. So this info not to helpful. /phyl
Great concept, but how do we do that and run our businesses at the same time? But I’ll give it a try.
Great teaching!
If we do our job at work like we run our IM business, we will have an opportunity to find another job opportunity somewhere else. The IM business purpose is to focus and ultimately become the boss. Thanks for the reminder and the lesson. I will hang the worksheet on the wall to remind me!
I have no website. I want to make money online. I have spent so much money, everything sounds great and then I open up what I spent a fortune on, and can’t understand a work they are saying. I am not computer illiterate but all this is confusing. It would be nice to pay someone to set it all up and then you take it from there and run it after that. I also would like to find someone that is honest, not that says they are honest, but really honest and will support and help you from start to finish.
Hello Glen,
Great Work – Great Posts!
You want a question? Here it comes: I need help to learn how to handle the littlest Blog there is – that would be quite a learning experience for me.
Is there a possibility to learn that?
Blessings,
Vera
Lynnette, I am with you – this is exactly what is happening to me.
I would like to learn how a little blog is being set up with all the trimmings, bot just the first page and take it from there. I have a blog, but it’s not moneymaking, just to show people my eBook, by the way you can visit and download the book.
the blog is at http:www.freeoldoaktree.com.
Email me and maybe we can get together and find someone who can help us.
What do you think? Would love to hear from you,
Vera
Hi Glen!
Great Video !
It is soooo true that we need to learn that, and turn it into a habit.
You only realize how much you can do on one day when your internet coccection is down and you are interferred by eMail or messengers… haha
Thanks!
adi
Yup, that’s me, at least I know what to do now.
All the best Glen.
cheers
David
FOCUS is, really, the most important aspect when starting a business and the first step to succeed (!).
I’m glad for having your email opened. But, again, I am already using the fortunate rule of looking at the mail box just twice or three times a day and choosing only the best ones.
Congratulations for the choice of the subject, Glen!
Indeed, the productivity gurus of today would seem to validate this viewpoint. Time-blocking is a very useful alternative to multitasking. Focussing is far more conducive to activities that yield ‘timely’ results.
Happy birthday Glen
Thanks for the great advice!
I am starting to work on my music career which I am confident will work out , for I was concentrated at improving and am very good now. Unfortunately….. Music won’t pay the bills for awhile so I have to supplement. So I have made the mistake of doing just the opposite and must choose what will distract me from my ultimate goal least. REI or internet marketing. Multi-tasking sucks the energy out of everything!
